I want to take a moment to introduce myself to you and share a little of my connection with ROWAN. My name is Kristen Mbabazi and I am married to my wonderful husband, Busiisi, who grew up in Kampala, Uganda. We have four wonderful boys and we currently live in Manitoba, Canada.
I fell in love with Uganda over 18 years ago when I spent 6 weeks on a mission trip with Africa Inland Mission in northern Uganda. It did not take me long to realize that this beautiful county filled with beautiful people would always hold a very special place in my heart. I searched for any chance I could to go back to Uganda after coming home and it wasn’t until 2004 that an opportunity opened up to do my teaching practicum in an international school in Kampala. It was during this time that I met my husband, which I will share more of another time. But he wasn’t the only person I met that year that would play an important role in my future. I was introduced to Pastor Paul who asked if I would want to come and volunteer in the Mawanga Primary School and volunteer in his village. The idea of being away from the busyness of Kampala, and in a village far away from electricity and running water, intrigued me. I made arrangements to spend the rest of my time in Uganda with Pastor Paul and his family.
That decision, as scary as it sounded, was one I will never regret. Not only did I gain so many amazing memories and experiences that I will forever cherish, but I also gained an amazing family that I call my own. Pastor Paul is a father to many and has taken so many people into his home and has called them his daughters and sons. I am lucky to be one of those such people. So from this mzungu daughter of Pastor Paul I want to say, it’s nice to meet you ROWAN family! I look forward to sharing more with you!
